Alone in Tokyo, my dream city (Day 1 Part 1)

I dreamed to visit Tokyo for a long time, and in the second week of November, this dream finally came true.

Before I started high school, I dreamed that I would be able to spend my life in Japan but I could not do so because of my financial status. So the only thing I could do was only dreaming because I couldn’t even go there for travel.

When I started my working life as a office girl. I didn’t get the best salary but I tried to save money so that someday I could visit Japan.

And the day I wished for so long had finally come.

I booked the flight and hotel before I left my job to become a freelancer. And November is the first month I am spending my life as a freelancer. I intended to visit Japan alone because I wanted to have some time to talk with myself and enjoy the place I love.

I took a heavy backpack and a small bag to keep my valuables and went to Suvarnabhumi Airport alone. Waiting for the departure time, I was surrounded by Japanese.

When I was on the airplane, I felt very excited because the time I was waiting for a long time had finally come.

This was a night flight. It was scheduled to arrive in Tokyo around 6.30 a.m. This was the first time I took a flight with full service. It was very convenient. I intended to sleep because I wanted to start my journey immediately after arriving there. However, it was so hard to sleep on the airplane. I realized I couldn’t have a deep sleep for more than 2 hours. I was afraid I would not have power to travel. While the air hostesses were serving breakfast, I asked for a cup of coffee and I hoped that it could help me.

When the airplane descended on Japan, I was very happy. I looked out of the window to see the city. I almost cried. My dream had come true.

After I got off the airplane, I walked directly to the immigration. Before I came here, I was a bit afraid that the Immigration would not allow me to pass because I am a Thai girl and came here alone. However, it was very easy to walk through the Immigration and the officer worked very politely.

I bought a subway ticket for 3 days for travelling around Tokyo and I could get the ticket for travelling to the city centre from Haneda Airport.

While I took the train from the airport to Asakusa station, I looked around in the train and it made me feel very weird that I wore sandals coming to Japan.

So after I got off the train, I changed my sandals for sport shoes.

I took another train to Inaricho station which is the nearest station to my hotel. When I walked out of the station, the weather was very cold. Actually it was only 13 Degree Celsius but it was very cold for me because I came from a warm city.

I looked at the map which I printed out from the website of the hotel. It was not hard to find my hotel.

I started to travel in Ueno because it was near from my hotel. I walked around in Ueno Park. It was quiet, beautiful and good weather. I really liked it there. While I walked around, I started thinking about my future. I came here with the disorganization of my life. I was very confused and I didn’t know what I should do for my future life.

I walked to the Ueno Toshoku shrine. It was quiet. Some Japanese came there to worship. While I was reading the description about how to wash hand and mouth Japanese style from the instruction board, a young western girl came to me and taught me how to wash hands as her mom taught her. I was a bit surprised and looked for her mom. I found that her mom was taking a photo of the shrine. Later, her mom came to her and complained to her that she shouldn’t teach anyone here. The girl said “I was only showing her how to wash hands”. Then, her mom took her back and apologized to me.

I walked out of the shrine and walked by the zoo. I sat at the bench in front of the zoo and watched the little school children that came here with their teacher. They were very cute. Only looking at them made me feel happy.

Then, I went to the National Museum. I bought a special ticket from the machine. The special ticket is only for sightseeing in the Chinese Emperors Museum. The regular pass would include the Japan Museum and Japanese Garden Museum.

I came out of the museum around noon. I saw a lot of students having lunch at the park. I thought it was time to look for a restaurant.

I went to Ameyoko Shotenkai market. There are a lot of restaurants, fresh food shops and sweet shops. I chose a restaurant where I saw a lot of students coming out of.

I ordered Japanese curry. It tasted so good. And the staff was very nice.

When I finished eating, I felt I wanted to take a rest so I went back to the hotel.

I had a private room for 4 nights at Oak Hotel. The room was very small but enough for me. I lay on the bed right after entering the room. I was so tired. I wanted to sleep for 2 hours and then I would wake up and leave to Shibuya which I saw many times in movies and series.
