In September 2015, I took a holiday in Bali, Indonesia with
my boyfriend. We planned to go there because we heard about how amazing the place
is.
Before we travelled there, we tried to exchange money to get
Rupiahs. Unfortunately, it was so hard to exchange Thai Baht to Rupiahs in
Thailand so I exchanged some pocket money to USD first since I read that USD are
accepted at some shops. Then we would exchange all of our pocket money in Bali
again.
When we arrived at Denpasar International Airport, the
driver from the company we hired over the internet was waiting for us to pick
us up to travel around Bali. However, we were too tired from the flight and
asked him to only bring us to our hotel, and we changed our plan to travel
tomorrow instead.
Our hotel was near Kuta Beach which is not far from the airport.
The driver asked us to pay $15. We were not sure if it was too expensive for
Bali but if compared with Thai prices, it would be very expensive surely.
We stayed at Satriya Cottages, a nice resort-style hotel
with garden and swimming pool in a quiet location. It was also reasonably
priced and we could get free breakfast.
On the first day, we tried to exchange money at a shop near
Kuta Beach. We could find a lot of shops with signs showing the exchange rate
and the rate of each shop was different. We tried to look for a shop with the
best exchange rate but some shops showed a good rate without mentioning that
the customers must pay a commission.
After we exchanged money from the shop we thought offered a good
rate, we rented a motor bike to drive around. Renting a motor bike in Bali is not
so expensive.
We drove to Uluwatu Temple, the closest interesting temple
from Kuta Beach. However, it took around 1 hour and half to get there because
we went there without navigator and we got lost many times. We had to ask the
direction from local people. I was impressed of the local people here. They
could speak English, offered a good help to us and they were kind. One man
tried to draw a map for us.
We arrived at Uluwatu Temple around 5 p.m. but it was still
full of tourists. Uluwatu Temple is perched on a steep cliff. We could get a
good view of the beach here.
The weather was nicer than I had expected. At first, I
thought Bali would be hot but actually it was very pleasant with nice cool
winds.
After we walked around the temple, we drove back to Kuta Beach
to go swimming. The sea was very cold and the waves were strong. It was a lot
of fun to go swimming there.
The next day we would go sightseeing at more famous and
interesting temples in Bali.
